Extending for a second year

You can extend your program by 6, 9, or 12 months after your first year. You can extend with the same host family or a new one.\n\n**Requirements:**\n- Completed 80% of your first-year education hours\n- In good standing with your sponsor\n- Extension paperwork submitted before your current DS-2019 expires\n\n**Cost:** There is usually an extension fee ($400-$800). Some host families pay this, some split it.\n\n**Education requirement changes:** In your extension year the required education hours are different (usually 6 credits for 12 months, 3 for 6 months). Check with your sponsor.
